Multilingual education (MLE) program
Our MLE program has focused on high-quality language and math instruction for multilingual learners in their mother tongues, dual language instructional models in classrooms, teacher preparation programs designed to increase the multilingual educator fraternity, and effective teaching for drop-out and migrant students who are multilingual learners. Our approach towards MLE is committed to helping teachers, administrators and policymakers promote educational opportunities and outcomes for multilingual learners, from pre-schools to primary schools. Our MLE program follows key strategies of rigorous research, assessment, technical assistance and strategic planning intervention to help teachers address language barriers in schools, bridge the language gap in the classrooms and change the quality of multilingual learners’ educational experiences. We promote effective, culturally responsive teaching practices that ensure access to high-quality instruction and learning opportunities in schools. Recognizing multilingualism as an asset and centering equity, we work with various stakeholders to identify best practices and implement viable solutions to remove barriers and increase equitable opportunities for multilingual children.
Learning enhancement program
National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India says that the ability to read, write and perform basic operations with numbers, is a necessary foundation and an indispensable prerequisite for all future schooling and lifelong learning. We echo with NEP 2020 and aim to accelerate the learning outcomes of children. Our programmes focus on enhancing the literacy and numeracy skills of children aged 6-14 years through innovative teaching and learning techniques in government primary, upper primary and residential schools. This is done indirectly through partnerships with the government and directly through support classes run by SOVA in schools. our rapid learning modules enable children to learn reading, writing and arithmetic in a matter of months, not years. Modules help children achieve foundational literacy and numeracy in 175 instructional days. Our modules enable children to learn not just crucial “3Rs” (Reading, Writing, Arithmetic) but 21st century “6 Skills” of “collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, character and citizenship”. We provide additional support to children through digital learning strategies that strengthen learning through a blended model (physical and digital) to enable more effective classroom teaching. We have developed innovative learning techniques called “SARALA” for the children who drop out of school. We run SARALA classes for drop-out children and re-enrol them in schools as per age and grade-appropriate competencies. SARALA is a 25-week module that helps children become proficient in age and grade-appropriate reading and writing skills.
Activity-based learning program
Our “SAHAJA” tool addresses the educational needs of 3-5-year-old children who are in preschools. These children require a strong education foundation for future development. Through SAHAJA we provide children with the opportunity to explore their learning environment and make it joyful and long-lasting. This method incorporates fun activities in the learning process. Our ABL program in preschool contributes to a child’s social, emotional, and physical development. It fosters skills in problem-solving, critical analysis and creativity. We have developed an innovative technique called the 11-step methodology to impart early childhood education through SAHAJA and prepare the children to move from preschool to primary school. It helps children develop a positive attitude towards education, setting them up for a successful academic future. Our SAHAJA intervention aligned with the quality foundational education as recommended under the NEP 2020 which includes the early childhood education curriculum and school readiness program.
