Nutrition and Basic Health
By prioritizing nutrition and basic health, we aim to empower individuals to lead healthier lives, reduce healthcare disparities, and foster sustainable development in the communities we serve. Through targeted interventions and collaborative efforts, we aspire to make a tangible difference in improving the overall health and quality of life for people across the area.

The southern districts of Odisha—Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada—continue to exhibit poorer health indicators compared to the rest of the state. Stunting remains highest in Nabarangpur (45.8%), followed by Malkangiri (45.7%), Rayagada (43.5%), and Koraput (40.3%). The prevalence of wasting is also high in Nabarangpur (36.0%), Malkangiri (32.5%), and Koraput (28.5%), while over half the children in Malkangiri and Nabarangpur and more than 40% in Koraput and Rayagada are underweight. Mortality rates remain alarming, with MMR exceeding 30%, IMR around 48%, and under-five mortality at 6.5% (AHS 2013–2014). Limited access to quality healthcare and nutrition services, high anaemia rates among women, inadequate nutrition, poverty, and persistent superstitions contribute to these poor outcomes. Additionally, the prevalence of diseases such as cancer, sickle cell disease, HIV, and anthrax has further compounded the health burden. These interlinked challenges underscore the urgent need for improved healthcare infrastructure, targeted nutrition interventions, and strengthened community awareness to enhance maternal and child health in southern Odisha.
We are collaborating closely with community leaders and the district health department to address these pressing issues. Our efforts are focused on improving access to essential healthcare services for mothers and children, implementing nutrition programs, and raising awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and healthcare practices. Through community engagement and education, we aim to combat superstitions and promote evidence-based healthcare practices. Additionally, we are working to enhance the availability and affordability of quality healthcare services to ensure better maternal and child health outcomes in these underserved districts.
